Safety & Operations
An autogyro, also known as a gyroplane or gyrocopter, is a type of rotorcraft that generates lift using an unpowered rotor in autorotation. Invented and first flown on January 9, 1923, the autogyro is the predecessor of the modern helicopter.
Your flight will aboard a 2022 AutoGyro MTO Classic with a 912 ULS Rotax Engine. This brand new German manufactured AutoGyro is one of the most reliable, stable, quiet and fun Light Sport Aircraft in the world.
The aircraft features tandem seating in which the student is in the rear and instructor in the front; similar to riding a motorcycle in the sky! The two seat gyroplane offers dual control from either front or rear seats.
The gyroplane performs well in high winds and easily manages turbulence. If the engine ever has any issues, the Autogyro can safely land in small spaces with minimal ground roll. This feature makes it one of the safest aircraft out there.
Local expert tips
Recommended attire: Comfortable clothing and closed toed shoes. Guests with long hair will need to tie their hair back in a braid or ponytail.
For safety reasons, guests will not be allowed to bring any items with them onto the gyrocopter. To have lasting memories of your air adventure, be sure to book the video and photo package to take home digital footage of your time in the sky.
There can be traffic going to the North Shore during weekends and holidays, so be sure to plan accordingly and adjust drive times.
How to get there?
Skyland Air is located at Dillingham Air Field in Waialua, on the North Shore of Oahu and approximately 60 to 70 minutes from Waikiki, 50 to 60 minutes from Ko Olina, and 40 to 50 minutes from the Turtle Bay Resort.
