There is no better way to experience Kaneohe Bay than with the best Kaneohe Bay sandbar snorkeling tour on Oahu. You can relax on a floating lounge, go snorkeling and kayaking, or even add thrilling ocean adventures to make your day unforgettable!
Due to a Coast Guard mandated dry dock, this activity will be unavailable from Mar 25th until Apr 12th, 2025.
As the soothing sounds of live Hawaiian music fills the air, get ready for a Kaneohe Bay sandbar experience like no other. You will embark on a smooth sailing catamaran that will take you to one of the best spots on the Kaneohe Bay sandbar, and as the only full-size service ocean activity operator in the area, you can enjoy a wide array of activities including snorkeling, kayaking, and stand-up paddling, as well as upgraded adventure options like banana boat and bumper tube rides. These waters are filled with tropical fish, manta rays, and other sea creatures, and whether you decide to dive in or simply relax on the lounge, there is something for everyone!
Why do travelers choose this tour?
Many guests enjoy the fact this tour goes to a secluded area of the Kaneohe Sandbar so you won't have to worry about crowds or other boats during your time in the water.
There are many ocean activities to do during your visit to the sandbar. Snorkeling, kayaking, and standup paddle boarding (SUP) are included with all packages, and you can even upgrade to different package options that also have ocean thrill rides like a banana boat and tubing!
During the boat ride, guests can enjoy live music by talented local artists. From Hawaiian music to top radio hits, listen to sounds of the ukulele and guitar as the melodic voices of these amazing singers fill the air during the cruise.
There is something for everyone with the KBOS Kaneohe Sandbar tour, and no matter your age and physical ability, you will definitely be able to enjoy yourself. Whether you would like to relax and soak up the sun on the floating barge, get in a game of water volleyball, snorkel across the reef to see tropical fish, or simply enjoy walking and swimming along the sandbar, you will have memorable time.
How does it work?
Once you check-in with the crew at the dock, make your way on board the spacious boat and have a seat. Depending on the tour time, you will be able to enjoy a donut breakfast or sandwich lunch on your way out to sandbar, but both tours will also include live music during the ride.
After the boat is moored at the sandbar, you will have plenty of time to explore and enjoy all that the area has to offer. Crew members will be on hand to assist you in snorkeling, kayaking, standup paddling, or volleyball, and you can also just swim and have a moment of serenity under the sun.
Guests that have booked the ocean thrill ride upgrades will be informed by crew members when it is time to head back onto the boat to board the banana boat or tube before you are whisked away across the waves by a quick and nimble speed boat.
After over 2 hours in the water, it will be time to head back to the harbor, and during the ride back, you will once again be able to enjoy live musicians sing and play the ukulele and guitar. It is the best way to end a wonderful day on Kaneohe Bay!
What is the difference between the packages?
There are two departures times in the Morning (9:30AM) and Afternoon (1:00PM). Besides the tour time, the main difference is that the Morning tour includes donuts, and the Afternoon tour includes a sandwich lunch.
All tours include water, juice, and hot tea for refreshments, as well as snorkeling, kayaking, standup paddling, water volleyball, and access to the floating lounge barge.
Standard Package: Includes all basic activities listed above.
All Inclusive Package: In addition to the activities listed above, guests will also be able to experience both a banana boat ride and a tubing ride.
Choice of Banana Boat OR Bumper Tube Ride Package: As it says in the name, this package includes all of the basic activities listed above, and a choice of either the banana boat or tubing ride.
Local expert tips
Beer and hard seltzer are available for purchase on the boat. Guests may bring their own alcoholic drinks, but a nominal corkage fee per person is required at check-in. For safety reasons, hard liquors and glass containers are not permitted.
Please note that gluten-free, vegan, or vegetarian meal options are not available on this tour.
There is a small store with drinks, ice, and snacks available at the harbor if you would like to purchase something before the tour.
Bring a waterproof or splash proof bag for any belongings you would like to take out into the water. You can leave them up on the floating lounge, but it is always safer to have them in a bag that will repel water.
For guests who are driving themselves, take the opportunity to continue exploring Oahu with a drive towards the North Shore. Along the way you can stop at Coral Kingdom for the best huli huli chicken and garlic shrimp on Oahu.
The Kaneohe Bay Sandbar is fun to visit at almost anytime of the year, but the Morning Package will normally be less windy with calmer ocean conditions.
To check when high and low tide is predicted at the Kaneohe Bay Sandbar, click here to be directed to the official National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) website.
Recommend attire: While there are restrooms and changing areas, guests should wear their swimsuit under their clothing. Sunglasses and brimmed hat are very helpful when out exploring the sandbar, and a light jacket or hoodie is a great way to stay warm on the boat ride back.
Recommend items to bring: Guests should bring beach towels and reef-safe sunscreen. Food and snacks are more than welcome to be brought on board.
Boat information
The Action Club has a very spacious and comfortable deck layout, and includes three full size restrooms and one dressing room, but no showers, on the main vessel. There is ample room to relax and enjoy the views, as well as a stage for live Hawaiian musical performances.
How to get there?
He'eia Kea Boat Harbor is approximately 45 minutes away from both Waikiki and Ko Olina by car. From Waikiki, you will take H1 to Likelike Highway before heading on to Kamehameha Highway. From Ko Olina, you will take H1 to H3 before heading on to Kamehameha Highway.
While there is parking available at the harbor, be sure that you do not park in a stall that is reserved or for boat trailers only. Should parking at the harbor not be available, there is street parking available along Kamehameha Highway.
Public transportation is available on The Bus on the #60 Kaneohe-Haleiwa route, but due to possible delays and the length of time, it is not recommended.
Round-trip transportation from Waikiki is available for additional fee during the booking process, and there are pick-up locations conveniently located throughout the area.
