From Waikiki (36.5mi, 65-80min): Head WEST on the H1 Freeway. Take exit 20A to merge onto HI-62N/Kalihi Street towards the Likelike Highway. Continue on HI-63N for 7 miles and take the HI-83/Kahekili Highway ramp. Merge onto the HI-83W (Kahekilli Highway) and stay on the highway for 23.5 miles (approximately 2 miles past the Polynesian Cultural Center). Turn towards the mountain onto Gunstock Ranch’s private dirt road. Turn left at the first gate. Drive through 2nd gate to the office. Parking is free, follow the signs to the designated parking area.

- Stairs are available to help those up onto horse. Riders must be able to hold themselves up on saddle as well as self-assist or be a member of a party that can assist you onto the horse. Ranch facilities are typical un-paved ranch conditions and restrooms are standard portable. Please indicate during booking for most convenient arrangements.
- If the weather at the scenic lookout point is not suitable for stopping, you will be brought back to the ranch and eat under the shelter of the covered pavilion.
- Backpacks, bags, and bulky camera equipment will not be allowed on the horse for the ride. There will be a small pack on the saddle that can fit a water bottle or small camera.
- Children 7 years old and above can participate in this activity.

The lucky child will be given time to feed and pet their horse before the ride. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about horses, and also time for the child and the horse to get to know each other before embarking on the pony ride. Adults are welcome to take photos to capture these memories.

Q. Do I need any prior experience to participate in this activity?
A. No prior experience is required unless you go on the advanced ride.
Q. Will we be allowed to run the horses?
A. The "Advanced Trail Ride" is the only tour that you will be allowed to run/gallop/canter on horses. All other rides are walking/trotting.
Q. How far in advance should I book this activity?
A. We recommend booking at least a few days in advance. If you have very specific schedule requirements and are not flexible, please book sooner. Last minute availability is often possible, but limited.
Q. How many people are there in a tour group?
A. There is a maximum group size of 15 people for the walking tours, and six (6) people for the advanced tour.
Q. Will there be stops for picture taking?
A. There are plenty of spots that are scenic for picture taking. There is also a lookout spot that they stop at where the guides will get off their horses and position the riders to take their picture for them. It is encouraged to bring your own camera.
Q. Who is Gunstock Ranch?
A. The ranch has been in the Smith family for over 35 years. Originally from Arizona, Max Smith is a third generation rancher. His children and grandchildren are born and raised in Hawai'i and are dedicated to the family business. Max Smith has also received the honor of being added to the Paniolo Hall of Fame.
Q. Do you provide transportation?
A. No, this activity does not provide transportation. The drive is approximately 1.5 hours drive north of Honolulu.
