Local expert tips

• Sea turtles are generally calm and friendly, but do keep in mind both the NOAA and DLNR guidelines state that you should stay at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from them at all times. They will likely not approach you, so just be aware of where they are and don’t bother them as they go about their day.
• While lots of local tours head to Turtle Canyon, the Honu Lani sets out a bit later and stays out longer than most, ensuring that you will not only miss most of the crowds, but also get plenty of time to explore!
• Wear your bathing suit under your clothes, so you can jump right into the water when you arrive at Turtle Canyon. Wear comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting wet, as there is always a chance for light splashing! It can get a little chilly out on the water, so it is a good idea to bring a sweater or light jacket.
• Bring reef-safe sunscreen and any other sun protection you like, such as a hat or sunglasses, and a towel for drying off after your swim. Don’t forget a government-issued photo ID if you plan to enjoy any bar drinks.
• Whale migration season is December through March, so if you come during then, you are likely to see some of these majestic creatures as well!
• This tour departs from Kewalo Basin Harbor, which is just minutes from the heart of bustling Waikiki, but has plenty to offer on its own! How to get there?

Kewalo Basin is easily accessible from all parts of Oahu, and is located right outside of Waikiki. Round-trip transportation is available from various locations throughout Waikiki for an additional fee. Otherwise, guests can reach the harbor by public transportation, taxis and ride shares, or driving.

The harbor can be reached by the Honolulu City Bus to Ala Moana Blvd & Kamakee Street.

Guests who are driving can find paid parking at the harbor. While there is complimentary parking available near by in the Ward shopping area, we do not recommend parking there since it is for Ward clientele only.

Kewalo Basin is approximately a one-hour drive from the Ko Olina resort area, and up to a 15-minute drive from most major Waikiki hotels and resorts.
