Bishop Museum was established in 1889 to preserve and share the natural and cultural history of Hawai‘i and the Pacific. Today, Bishop Museum houses and cares for over 25 million historical, cultural, and natural treasures.
Join one of the daily public tours inside Hawaiian Hall to learn more about Bishop Museum’s history, its unique cultural materials, and the living cultures of Hawai‘i and the Pacific.
Take a trip through the Kāhili Room to see first-hand the feather standards used to represent the chiefs of Hawai‘i and understand the lives of the ruling monarchs whose governance shaped the history of the Hawaiian Islands.
Engage your senses at our Resource Center with activities that help you to learn about the different kinds of natural resources used traditionally in Hawai‘i, from the shore to the mountains.
Check out our glow-in-the-dark Hawaiian Origins Tunnel and marvel at our signature volcano, which erupts for the perfect picture. Then join the Hot Spot Theater, where you can learn about volcanoes, the creation of the Hawaiian Island chain & even see real molten-hot lava poured out of our furnace.
A full-dome projection program puts you on the deck of the voyaging canoe Hōkūleʻa as you explore traditional Polynesian navigation and find your own way to Tahiti from Hawaiʻi. The show takes place at 11:30 am daily
Learn about the cultures of the Pacific Islands by trying your hand at making patterns for barkcloth, making string figures, seeing how to prepare food, and even building a canoe at our Resource Center.
