My family and I visited in October 2022 and rented paddle boards. We had an amazing paddle up the river which followed a beautiful hike up to the Falls It started raining on our way back but it was still an amazing experience. It was super easy yo rent the boards and they instructed us well on how to position them for travel. Definitely recommend and will hopefully return again.

Self-Guided Wailua River Paddling Tour & Waterfall Hike
Once you check-in and secure the equipment to your vehicle, take a quick drive to the launch site at Kaumualii State Park before paddling your way up the Wailua River. Soon you will reach the trail that will take you to the famous Uluhewi Falls, better known as Secret Falls, perfect for photos!

Itinerary

Kayaks & SUP need to be Car topped, the short distance from the convenience of our Wailua River Marina location; across the Wailua bridge to the launch area at Kaumuali’i State Park.
Be prepared to lift and car top a 75 lbs. kayak at the end of your paddle.
For safety reasons, we car top no more than two doubles at a time, which may require larger parties to make various trips the short distance across the Wailua River to the public launch site.

- Guests who are pregnant are not permitted to participate in this activity.
- Guests with neck, back or joint problems are not permitted to participate in this activity.
- This activity is not wheelchair accessible.
- Children 6 years old and above can participate in this activity.
- All equipment must be returned by 4:00 PM. If you return your equipment after 4:00PM, you will be charged $25 every 15 minutes past 4:00PM for each kayak and paddle board rented.
- By Hawaii state law, both South Fork and the Fern Grotto are off limits to kayak rentals.
- There must be one adult for every child in the party. If there are more children than adults in your group, your booking will be declined.
Other requirements
- Participants are required to sign a liability waiver at the time of check-in.
- Minors are required to have a parent or guardian sign their liability waiver.
- Kayaks and paddle boards will need to be secured to the roof a vehicle and driven to the launch site. Guests must have a vehicle available.
- Guests must be able to lift and carry a 75 lbs kayak to and from the top of their vehicle.
- For safety reasons, a maximum of two tandem kayaks are allowed on the vehicle at one time. Larger groups requiring more than two kayaks will need to make multiple trips from the check-in area to the launch site.
- Guests must wear the provided flotation device while paddling on the river.

- During your paddle, if the river is turning muddy, it is a sign of flooding up river. Immediately seek higher ground if on land and get off the river if on the water.
- Observe caution and do not paddle further upstream if you feel you are having a hard time paddling against the current.
