Great tour

Elena M
Henry is a wonderful tour guide. He told us so many interesting things about Big Island culture, history, plants, geology, stars. He was great with the kids and took a good care of us all. The Rainbow fall was beautiful and the banyan tree nearby was insane! The star gazing was great even though the conditions were not the best (bright moon). For me the best experience of the tour was getting deep inside the cave - it was amazing, I had never seen anything like it.
Experience the only Mauna Kea stargazing tour on the Big Island that includes daytime solar viewing. Departing from both Kona and Hilo, enjoy a delicious dinner before looking up into Hawaii skies with high-powered telescopes to see the sun & stars.
This once-in-a-lifetime stargazing tour is the only one on the Big Island that features both evening and daytime sun and star viewing in Hawaii! Travel along the Saddle Road, between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, and once you are on the slopes of the dormant volcano, you will be given time to acclimate to the altitude while your guide explains the history of the island and the volcano. Enjoy a delicious dinner before looking through a solar telescope as the sun dips low on the horizon, and then as the sky begins to sparkle with stars, switch to a high-powered telescope for the best views of the heavens in Hawaii!
Know Before You Go:
Where is the Stargazing Location? The stargazing takes place on the slopes of Mauna Kea. On this tour, you will not be visiting the Summit of Maunakea or the Visitor Center.
What type of Telescope will be used? You’ll observe deep-sky and planetary objects through a large 10-inch aperture Dobsonian telescope. Their fast focal ratio enables you to see sprawling wide-field views of objects that simply aren’t possible with the types of telescopes used by other tours.
Kapohokine Adventures is the only company on the island that features a state of the art Coronado SolarMax 60 hydrogen-alpha solar telescope for safe views of the sun.
What will I see? Depending on what is visible in the current sky and weather permitting, you’ll observe galaxies, nebula, star clusters, planets, double star systems, the moon, and much more; all the highlights and showpiece objects like you’ve never seen before!
