“Ohana”

Reviewed by: San Francisco , 2024/03/02

The Smith family really made you feel like “Ohana”. They were very welcoming and embraced and welcomed each and every guest with a pooka lai; photo, tram tour, exhibition on how pig was prepared and cooking process; unlimited buffet style meal with authentic cultural entrees, desserts and “poi”; and evening entertainment.

Must do in Kauai!!

Reviewed by: Sabra , 2023/09/21

This luau is informing and very exciting! They talk a lot about the past of Kauai and ancestral history. Price point at only $25 (without dinner) is absolutely great, especially for families with little ones. Handicap seating is available. Main seating area is at a slant so if you want to sit towards the bottom (closer) come early. My 1 year old even loved it and was clapping. Attire is Hawaiian style and it’s wonderful to see all the cool outfits. Bathrooms are close by and water is provided. I felt it ran a bit short this time compared to last year but it was still super amazing and would 100% go again.

Beautiful property, Excellent Food. Show Is Lacking.

Really fun Luau!

GLOWS:
- Beautiful property. Got to see a peacock open its tail -Lots of great picture spots on the property.
- The food was delicious!! I finally got to try all the traditional Hawaiian food in one place. Things that I didn't get to order in the restaurants, I got here. And it was All You Can Eat which is always amazing. There was no shortage of food for sure. Since they gave you a ton of time (I think an hour?) to eat, you can take your time and go back for 2nd's or 3rd's. (All you can drink drinks but I don't drink alcohol so I enjoyed their juices which were great too!).
- Pig Ceremony!! I got to see them dig out the pig and see the whole thing. It felt special as Mr. Smith explained all that was happening.
- Good singing and hula dancing! Get on the stage and shake your booty!!
- Fire dancer in the show was great!
- This is a family run operation and we were told there were 3 generations on the property!! Keep it up!
- I appreciated the shout outs for all the celebrations that everyone was doing. From Birthdays to Anniversaries and everything in between. One big party!

GROWS:
- Honestly, a Luau is part food and part show and the show was really just lacking. There was no spirit in the performers. I'm not sure if they were bored/tired of doing it night after night or what but I felt almost bad for them(mainly the ladies). The crew was small so they had to do a lot of different dances with the same performers, there was no energy or spirit in any of the dances. Favorite part was definitely the Fire dancer - he was fantastic. The guys also carried a lot more energy than the ladies. I do appreciate the way they tried to incorporate different cultural dances into the show but they all started to look the same after one or two dances. I would've left halfway through the show if it weren't for the fire dancer at the end.

  • Fire dancer!

  • All the foods!

  • THE PIG!

  • The stage for the show

  • Pig ceremony

Beautiful experience

Reviewed by: Irene M, 2019/11/09

We were originally not going to attend a luau but decided last minute to do so as this was recommended by locals as a must do experience. The family and staff were wonderful, absolutely loved talking to the Aunties. The food was good with a variety to choose from. The show incorporated different dances representing the different backgrounds in Hawaiian culture in addition to the Polynesian beginnings. The gardens were beautiful. Definitely recommend this luau as you get not just food and a show but a chance to walk through the gardens with a tram tour to start and also to talk to the friendly staff. They all have such wonderful stories and experiences to share!

  • Too much food to choose from but must have the kalua pork!

Overall very good experience

Nicely organized and fun filled event. Just performance isn’t that high level. Dancers were ok but not really professional level of dancers. Food was good. And overall experience was very good.

Beautiful Property

Reviewed by: Randi Ellenbest, 2017/01/14

We went to this luau with our two adult daughters. It was such a beautiful place to explore! We were able to walk around and take pictures. The dinner was good and nicely displayed. There was a little of something for everyone to like. The show was very good and entertaining. It got a little hard to sit for that long on the forward slanted seating though. I would recommend for a fun night.

Beautiful gardens and show!

Reviewed by: Sam, 2016/03/14

Overall me and my wife had a great time at the Luau. The gardens were really nice to walk around in and see all the different types of plants and trees. The show was really nice, they showcased dances from the different cultures that make up Hawaii. The only thing that my wife didn't like was the food. I personally didn't think it was too bad. Definitely a good experience for anyone visiting the island!

Smith's Luau

Reviewed by: Dave, 2013/06/13

The evening started with a tram tour around the gardens, time to walk and photograph the gardens, traditional Hawaiian meal (buffet style) followed by a presentation of the various hula styles influenced by the various people that came to the islands. All in all - recommended.

This is actually the 3rd or 4th time we have attended a Smith's Luau. We always take newcomers here. They all expect a Luau. It is the best one on Kauai and we would strongly recommend it.
