This was the third time we have attended this luau and this was jut delightful. Instead of a buffet, servers brought dinner to us - a wide selection of Hawaiian flavors - just yummy! Our server as Jonathan and he was just delightful...great welcoming personality like he really appreciated that we were there. This is the best luau and the area and highly recommended.

What is the difference between the packages?

There are two seating options available, traditional ground seating and table and chair seating.

Traditional seating package: Sit on cushions on the ground at a low-level table located in front of the performance area. This seating arrangement has traditionally been used throughout Hawaii for luaus, festivities, and more. Although these seats are closest to the stage, it is not recommended for those with back or leg issues since you will need to have your legs crossed throughout the evening.
Table and chair package: Comfortable chairs and tables are located behind the traditional ground seating, and offer a clear view of the stage no matter where you are seated. The luau grounds are raised on tiers, and the last row is only 40 feet away from the stage so you will be sure to have an amazing view no matter where you are seated.

Local expert tips

This activity is incredibly popular, and is normally sold out three to four months in advance. We highly suggest booking as soon as possible so you do not miss out on this incredible opportunity.
The show is wheelchair accessible, and you will need to book table & chair seating
The show and setting are appropriate for everyone from honeymooning couples to groups of families and friends, but it is not the most recommended for young children as there are no pre-luau activities for them to enjoy.
Please keep in mind that, unlike other luaus, the Old Lahaina Luau solely features Hawaiian culture so there will not be a fire knife performance since that is the cultural dance of Samoa.
Recommend attire: Resort casual or Aloha wear, with a light jacket or sweater. Flat shoes are a better option than high heeled shoes since the grounds are uneven with grass.
Parties of 15 or more are subject to an automatic gratuity, and a 16% service charge will be added.

Luau Show

The Old Lahaina Luau is the only luau on Maui to exclusively share the stories of Hawaiians, and present hula as it is meant to be performed with respect and honor to Hawaiian ancestors and traditions. While other luaus have performances from other Polynesian cultures, the Old Lahaina Luau focuses on Hawaiian stories, music, and dance. How to get there?

Old Lahaina Luau is located on Front Street, Lahaina’s main street. Arrive 15 to 30 minutes early to park right by the entrance or one the friendly staff attendants will send you to additional free parking across the street at the Lahaina Cannery Mall.

Unique Hawaiian History & Culture

One aspect of any luau that everyone often looks forward to are the hula performances. Hula is an ancient tradition of storytelling that began hundreds of years ago as a way of both honoring the gods of Hawaii, and a way to preserve the stories and myths surrounding them. Hawaii luau music is now accompanied by both ancient (kahiko) and modern (auana) hula, and both offer a look into Hawaiian culture and history.

Kahiko, or traditional Hawaiian hula, is normally accompanied by a thudding drumbeat of a gourd drum, whereas auana, or modern hula, is a recent Hawaii dance form set to the sound of the ukulele and the Hawaiian slack-key guitar. On your next visit to a Hawaiian luau, be sure to take the opportunity to learn a dance, and always watch the hands and it is the hands of a hula dancer that will tell you the story.
