A great way to see Kaua'i's unreachable regions!
Reviewed by: Lucie Lachance, 2015/05/10I had the pleasure of sitting in the front on the passenger side of the helicopter so I had two windows to view the magnificent landscape. Miguel, our pilot & tour guide, immediately put me at ease and provided a very smooth and informative ride. The views of the falls, valleys & peaks, taro farms and the Na'pali coast gave me a better appreciation for the Garden Island. I would strong recommend Blue Hawaiian. The staff greeted me with smiles and were very well organized. My tour was at 8 a.m. so there were not many of us there. Upon our return however the lobby was full.

Kauai Helicopter Tour
Reviewed by: Marsha, 2015/05/01This was an awesome experience, I highly recommend it if you can, you will not regret it. We lucked out with rain, lots of waterfalls, and of course, rainbows. It was so beautiful, words just can't do it justice. The staff at Blue Hawaiian was great, we were a little late getting to the hangar and they called to see if we were ok, and gave us blow by blow directions to get to their place. (It is not hard to find, we are just directionally challanged)

The Best Combo Tour in Kauai
Reviewed by: Bud & Babe w/ guests, 2015/04/11Pre-dinner boat trip was great and set the mood for the beautiful Smith acreage of garden, trees, animals and Culture.
The Luau dinner was the BEST we have ever had. A good variety of Hawaiian and American cuisine. The service was super organized and everyone was seated and eating with- in minutes.
After eating everyone walked about 100 yards to the outdoor theater and enjoyed dancing depicting several cultures as well as Hawaiian traditional dances and fire dance.
The four of us had a wonderful evening!!

Reviewed by: kablewhirl, 2015/04/05This trip is very organized. We arrived at the grounds and were driven on a tram to the gardens (not sure why the tram, completely walkable). We were then left to wander the gardens for a half hour or so. The gardens are beautiful, the whole setting is lovely. The next event was the ceremony explaining how the pig is prepared and cooked, which was somewhat interesting. Next we were ushered into the dining area for cocktails and dinner. The pork was delicious, the rest basically typical buffet fare. Dinner felt like we were at a big wedding reception and didn't know anyone. If you like buffets and big feedings, you'll love this. Not our family's cup of tea. After dinner we walked to the theater for the show. The show was fine, the dancers were fine, it was entertaining. We didn't really know what to expect from a luau when we signed up and now that we've experienced it, we'll never feel a need to go back. Glad we saw the dancing but this is the one excursion we regret having spent our time and money on during our week in Kauai.

Reviewed by: kablewhirl, 2015/04/05We bought the river cruise as an add on to the Luau. It is a pleasant ride on the river with a tour guide and some hula dancing. Honestly we could hardly understand/hear what the guided was saying on the ride. The dancing was nice. The whole experience was just a little underwhelming. Would not sign up for it as an individual event.

great show and scenic trip
Reviewed by: Jill, 2015/03/25The performers we're so friendly and entertaining. you could tell they enjoyed presenting the music and dance show. the river ride was scenic and relaxing. the walk to the grotto and back was beautiful. highly recommend. don't book online with another company for $40 each. its only 20 when you book on this site.

It was incredible and worth every dollar spent. Blue Hawaiian delivers a first class experience from their modern new helicopters to their charming & knowledgable pilots. We will definitely tour with them again next trip to the Islands.

Incredible experience, best way to see Kauai's scenery
Reviewed by: Shella, 2015/03/01Our family of 4 took a tour of Kauai with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters in Feb 2015. We booked the flight a month prior, and were unable to book on our preferred day as they were already booked up, but were able to book on our 2nd choice day. When we checked in, they asked us each to stand on the mat that just looked like a welcome mat, didn't feel like standing on a scale, and they didn't broadcast your weight, it was discreet. The kids are aged 6 and 8 and could easily see out the windows and the pilot Geoff encouraged them to ask questions and interact. I am prone to motion sickness but the ride was smooth and our pilot was experienced put us all at ease. We each had a comfortable seat, about the same size seat as on an airplane, except had a 5 point harness, but was still comfortable. Terrific views and pilot gave good commentary about the island. It was tough to take pictures, reflection on the window, but they take a video of the flight you can purchase that included a camera inside the helicopter, the kids liked seeing themselves in the video. We haven't flown with other helicopter companies, so hard to compare which company is best, but Blue Hawaiian seemed very professional. We did a brief safety video and safety demonstration before the flight and the ground crew was friendly offered to take a picture of our family with the helicpter in the background. It was rather pricey for 4 of us, definitely needed to budget but it was worth it, very exciting and a once in a lifetime experience. If you want to truly see the scenery of Kauai, this is the BEST way.

Excellent Tour.
Reviewed by: Emma, 2015/02/01We usually choose to avoid the tours in favour of exploring on our own. However, on advice from friends who previously lived in Hawaii, a Luau is an experience not to be missed.
We chose the Fern Grotto River Boat Tour and Smith's Tropical Paradise Garden Luau combination tour with pick up and drop off from our hotel. It proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and evening.
The Fern Grotto, despite now missing a large number of ferns after the hurricane, is still a beautiful and tranquil spot to visit.
The highlight of this tour was definitely the Luau though. From start to finish, the service and quality of the show were seamless. The grounds are beautifully manicured and a photographer's delight. The food was delicious and ample in quantity; especially the pork. We were most impressed with how they managed to serve so many people in such an organised fashion. Everything was so very orderly and most visitors were invited to help themselves to second and third helpings. The Mai Tais and Punch were delicious and soft drinks were also readily available.
The show itself was very good and we were highly impressed with the quality of the performance.
Overall, a fabulous tour and highly recommended for all ages.

Grand Canyon" was awesome. Our pilot, Barrett, was wonderful and took a lot of time telling us what we were looking at and responding to all of our questions. Would definitely recommend as a "Must do" while in Kauai.

Reviewed by: Chris , 2014/12/13The fern grotto is a piece of Hawaiian history. Originally the site of a huge waterfall, before the river was diverted for irrigation, and originally the site of hundreds of ferns, before being battered by cyclones, this place is not what it once was.
It would have been a very impressive tourist attraction in the early 1900s but unfortunately ferns need water to grow and as it is with the river not going through here this place will never be as impressive and at the moment the tourist operators are trying to flog a dead horse.
Unless they divert the river back through here and let the ferns regenerate I would not recommend it. Time to put this activity out to pasture!

I dont think they could have made the excursion better with all the story telling, music and dancing. It was alot more than i expected and it was a great start to the luau we saw after!

Reviewed by: TN traveler, 2014/12/04I made this a part of my 2nd nights activities and had a wonderful time. I had shuttle service from hotel free to a gorgeous park. The food was excellent and drinks were very good. I had the Mai Tai and Hawaiian punch. Take a camera because the park is amazing. Smoking is near the bathroom , fyi :) this company has best ratings with trip advisor. I would love to see it again. Oh video camera because no flash photos. You need $20 to purchase the photo taken upon arrival. Have fun!

Reviewed by: JDowdell, 2014/11/29I've been to several luaus on different islands and Smiths is my favourite by far. Beautiful property to walk around. Buffet dinner is very organized and extremely filling not to mention the free Mai Tai's. Really nice show of Hawaiin style dance as opposed to the "Vegas" act I've seen at other Luaus. And if you are staying in Kapa'a, transportation is included. Definately a "must do " while you are visiting the beautiful island of Kauai

I love the family atmosphere at this luau and the hospitality that is extended to everyone. The show teaches about the many different people who settled in the Hawaiian islands. Reviewed by: Mary, 2014/11/17Every time we come to Kauai we take this River Cruise. It is so relaxing and the ride on the Wailua is calm and you don't have to paddle! We love the entertainment at Fern grotto as well as the fun on the way back to the dock. Everyone we have taken has enjoyed it! We always take this cruise right before going to the luau. A wonderful value too!

Best part of our Kauai vacation!
Reviewed by: KCOOPER, 2014/11/16We had 7 vacation days to take in as much of Kauai as we could, and we had booked our helicopter ride a month before we took it, but at the moment we were to get on the helicopter, the ride was cancelled due to poor weather. Can't fault them for that, in fact we appreciated that they cared enough for our safety and enjoyment of the ride by cancelling it when they felt compelled to. Fortunately, we were able to re-book 2 days later, and by then we had explored enough of the island to have a good idea what we were looking at once we were up in the air. This made the helicopter trip that much more valuable to us once we got up there. I had two cameras with me on the ride, taking both stills and videos the entire time, and now, a few weeks after the trip and having reviewed their and my photoraphy work, I've come to realize that the video of our trip that we bought from Blue Hawaiian Helicopters was BETTER quality than most of my videos, and I probably should have spent more time enjoying the ride than worrying about getting the shots. So if you go, be sure to buy the DVD or SD card of your ride, and don't be too concerned about taking pictures or videos. Although the ride was expensive, it was well worth the cost because you would never really see Kauai like you do in a helicopter ride, and Blue Hawaiian Helicopters gives a First Class ride!
