Ala Moana Beach Park, across from Ala Moana Shopping Center near Waikiki, is Oahu’s favorite gathering spot, and for good reason. Its calm clear blue waters, protective reef and golden sand beach make it a perfect spot for sunbathing, recreational swimming and family time.

Highlights

  • Half a mile long, the park features an extended peninsula called Magic Island
  • Equipped with shower facilities, food pavilions, tennis courts, and large grassy areas with picnic and BBQ areas
  • Snorkeling, surfing, and segway sightseeing are some of the fun activities you can do

History

The area where Ala Moana Beach Park stands was once a vast swamp land that was purchased by Dillingham Dredging Company in 1913. In 1934, Ala Moana Park was dedicated by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt when it was then named Moana Park. Sand was added to the waterfront in 1955 creating a beach area.
