Cold but worth the Wait

This is a tour am glad that finally happened. I wondered if we would have enough to do it and the tour agency at the last moment waived the minimum 4 and went with 3. I booked months ago since I knew I wanted to go to see the sunrise of Haleakala which I didn't see years ago at my first visit to Maui. The tour guide provided some light snacks with coffee and tea. Most importantly, he had blankets for the cold weather and recon where it was best for us to stand to see the sunrise before the crowd came. We hugged the rails and wrapped ourselves in the blankets for about 45 minutes after standing some 20 minutes or so without the blankets. We were there before the buses started arriving. Later, the tour agent walked us around some of Haleakala before driving us to the Kula Lodge for breakfast. We toured the gardens and visited the art gallery on the premises. We didn't see any nenes (Hawaiian goose) while on Haleakala but he told us tidbits about the homes and foliage we passed a

Nice Experience and Good Food

This was great. Food was great and the whole productive was very professional. They even had the performers meet at back for pictures you were so inclined. I did notice they did take some pictures before going - unsure how that was because it seemed to be for another tour group/company. Of course, you paid for these separately. I didn't inquire what the requirement for the pictures was - but perhaps if you notice such, may be you will. Many people were celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. It was a nice time and the music seemed to be continual even while you ate. A nice way to end a stay in Hawaii and it ended in good time so that you weren't up all night packing for the next day's start of the return to the mainland.

Nice Experience

We had a nice ride and the horses were matched up with our weight, age, and skill level as stated. This was my third time riding in 20 years and I went as a beginner and did well. I was concerned that I was a pre-pre-pre beginner. Yet I survived and have 3 nice pictures and some good memories of the trail. We had 2 tour guides and my regret is that I wished I'd given more beside $10 for a tip since they were watching my back so to speak :)

A Good Workout for A Great View

Tour guide was interesting and attentive to how the group was making it on the trail. For the faster he'd let us go ahead and express to wait at an area; and he then would walk with the not so fast group. The view is great at the end ?though sometimes you might wonder ?why am I doing this :) The Tour guide said flashlights were not necessary since they have lighted the tunnel area. I read the old literature and had my little flash light which worked good while your eyes adjusted to the lighted darkness in the tunnel. They also provided water and I had taken 2 of my own bottles of water - which is still a good idea because I wasn't sure water would be included. I drank my 2 bottles of water and at the end; I had one the tour guide supplied. After the long trail up negotiating some of the rocky trail, you get the steps and some winding steps. Then to the bunker and you do a little bending to get outside the outer area of the bunker to go up a few more steps for the best view. The

Nice Tour with a Workout

Nice tour - interesting tidbits along the way. I think the Explorer's Tour is worth the extra. You get to venture where the ropes are. You do some bending and ducking as you enter the various door entry areas on the ship. I think you get more out of the ship tour with the guide than just visiting without a tour guide.
ps - I selected good for families but that is also a judgment call depending on how mindful the children are in dealing with tight quarters and time-constraints to visit various areas of the ship.

Nice tour

Nice tour - interesting tidbits along the way. I think the Aviator's Tour is worth the extra. Though I am not an aviator, I thought you get more from the tour with a guide than without one. Turns out my tour was for me only - so I missed some of the tidbits that aviator's would have added to the conversation - though I am not saying I would have understood it all :)

Great Tour

I was impressed by the audio visuals used and the visuals used for USS Arizona tour and the Home of Brave portion of the tour.
The tour guide gave us some highlights of the USS Arizona attack as we waited in line for the Memorial to open.
Everything worked well: the extra tidbits, pictures in the van/shuttle, audio visuals; and the stops we made were interesting that also related with the audio visuals.
At the end of the tour, we stopped at a little museum and we were presented with a free post card that showed the areas that we had visited.

Oh - the meal on base that was all you can eat (not included in the price) but very good and less than $10. Great tour - it was a great way to start the vacation off in spite of the rain we experienced in the morning as we waited for the Memorial to open. I now have a $2 poncho that I purchased outside the Memorial and never had to use for the 12 days of my Hawaii stay. It's more of a conversation piece now :)
