Best Experience Ever!

Reviewed by: Brian, 2015/12/30

This was our first time going to Maui with the family and we wanted to choose the activities that would leave a great impact on all of us. And boy did we do the right choice. Doing this activity was the best experience ever! The staff was very friendly and informed us regarding safety issues, then we had our continental breakfast. On our way to the first snorkeling spot we had the chance to see some whales and that was a plus. Once we arrived to the right spot we snorkeled for about 45-55 minutes where we all had a chance to see a baby turtle swimming among us (super cute by the way). After that we continued to our second snorkeling place and it was there where we encountered more turtles and fishes. Being able to see the ocean life from a different perspective is amazing. Once we concluded our snorkeling we went back to the boat and had some delicious burgers and hotdogs BBQed for us by the staff. It was just amazing! I encourage you to do the Maui to Lanai - Dolphin Watch & Snorkel BBQ Lunch Cruise.

  • Ready to discover underwater wonders =)

I TOTALLY LOVED IT!!!

Reviewed by: ADRIANA, 2015/12/30

It was my first time snorkeling and I Totally Loved It!!! Before I booked the activity I was concern because I don't know how to swim but the staff was so friendly and they guided me through the process, which made it super easy and fun for me. They have all the equipment on board and I was able to use a belt that allowed me to float. It was an amazing experience where I was able to watch some whales, turtles and many more marine life. If you are planning a trip to Hawaii snorkeling is a MUST, believe me, you won't be disappointed. But please be aware that if you get sea sick, do yourself a favor and eat one of the bars they sell at the booth before boarding the boat. That way you will ensure to enjoy the whole experience. ALOHA & MAHALO to the crew that was amazing! I WOULD DEFINITELY DO THIS ACTIVITY WITH THEM AGAIN!!!

  • KIDS LOVED IT!

  • ALL READY TO GO INTO THE WATER… & This is the belt that helped me float.

Don't Sail on Gusty Days

Reviewed by: N2W3, 2015/12/24

I joined this tour mainly to snorkel, as I haven't done so for quite a well.

Too bad, though, that the winds were extremely gusty and waves very, very rough. I wish our captain, based on his experience, could have made the decision to bypass Lanai at the outset and gone straight to some friendlier waters such as Molokini, so that we didn't have to suffer through two+ hours of shuffling back and forth between Maui and Lanai.

On the positive side, I did enjoy the two snorkeling stops on the back side (Maui side) of the trip, especially watching my favorite Hawaiian green sea turtles.

BTW: happy hour pretty cool too.

Lanai Dolphin/Snorkel Trip

Reviewed by: Maui Honu, 2015/12/24

We picked a day with high winds, unfortunately, so most of the trip was very rocky and choppy, causing me and several other guest to throw up. But the crew was super nice and professional in helping us cope with such otherwise very uncomfortable experience.

Due the high winds, we weren't able to snorkel around Lanai because the waters were very murky. Fortunately, it got better when we got back to Maui side. Everyone ended up having a good time snorkeling after all.

My main goal was actually to see dolphins. Too bad we couldn't find any. They saw some whales, but not me, because that's when I was throwing up.

Food was not bad. Like the captain too.

Great time

Reviewed by: Shannon, 2015/12/08

We made our reservation by phone and had no problems finding a date and time. Customer service over the phone was great.
When we checked in at the dock, the lady check us in was very nice. They have you check in an hour prior to departure, which is a long time to hang out on the dock. There was no where to hang out or sit while waiting.
The crew on the boat was very nice and the food was decent. Due to the weather we were not able to go to the original destination, but the crew found a couple of spots for us to snorkel. We didn't see any Dolphins or turtles, just a few fish. We saw a whale from a distance, but we didn't hang out long enough in the same spot to see if the whales would resurface.
In all, the boat ride was much longer than expected. Most of the time was spent on the boat going to a snorkeling spot right next to the shoreline.

Snorkeling Trip to Lanai with the Lahaina Princess

Reviewed by: Christian, 2015/10/24

We already booked the snorkeling trip from our home in Austria and had no expectations at all what we will get as we were snorkeling-novices. On our first day on Maui we made a short trip from our hotel in Kihei to Lahaina to check where our trip will start the next morning. A very friendly lady at the port in Lahaina told us where our snorkeling trip will start and which boat will take us out.
The next morning an extremely friendly captain and his crew welcomed us on board and took us out to two awesome snorkeling spots. On our way we were served breakfast. At the snorkeling spots the crew was enormously helpful with the snorkeling equipment and to get into the water. During the snorkeling the crew members were out on surfboards two overlook the snorkelers. We felt extremely safe and fine.
On our way back we were served lunch with fresh fruits and beverages and nice things to eat.
We can highly recommend this company for booking a snorkeling trip. Unfortunately we did not see any dolphins or green turtles this day, but that is absolutely not the fault of the company.

Cruise summary and assesment

Reviewed by: Lynda DeWard, 2015/10/24

On October 7th we joined the Dolphin watch Snorkel cruise to Lanai. It was quite breezy that day and upon boarding we were informed that because of the weather the cruise to Lanai had to be canceled and alternate snorkel locations would have to be used instead of the live coral reefs originally promised off the coast of Lanai, and further, the activities and relaxing time on Lanai would be out of the question. Although very disappointed we understood the situation and sympathized with the cruise captain. She was very nice and we felt sorry for her. We proceeded to her first chosen snorkel location off the coast of Maui, dropped anchor and began preparation for our first snorkel dip. The underwater scenery was somewhat less than spectacular but the experience was interesting. Not having snorkeled for several years it was an exhilarating experience to paddle in the ocean and explore the ocean floor. Subsequently, we pulled anchor and headed for another snorkel area off the shore of Maui and had our lunch, which was quite good and filling. When we arrived at the second site it was too windy to dive there and we were forced to find another alternative site. Again, interesting but even less spectacular than the first and really too windy to enjoy. Exhausted and chilled we finally headed back to Lahaina harbor for our cruise departure. Final assessment, the crew was very good and experienced, the captain was very good and well informed and handled the situation, much as it was, graciously and all in all we did enjoy ourselves on the cruise, but we didn’t even come close to what we were expecting for our investment.

Beautiful Reef Tour Off Maui!

Reviewed by: Brian Soushek, 2015/10/20

The VELTRA tour I took was the Maui to Lanai Dolphin and Snorkel cruise on October 7th, 2015. The tour was a great opportunity to see the island of Maui from the water and snorkel in beautiful unspoiled coral reefs. The staff on the tour were attentive and hospitable. The food was great and there was plenty of it. We did not get to our destination of Lanai due to poor weather conditions. In my opinion the boat captain made a wise choice in avoiding a possible dangerous trip across the waterway between Maui and Lanai. The captain did offer the option of rescheduling our trip in order to see the island of Lanai, but our group was leaving the next day so this was not something we could do. I would suggest that anyone taking this tour should schedule it at the beginning of their vacation so if there is inclement weather they can change the date and have the full experience. One other concern was that lunch was served between our snorkeling opportunities and on my second snorkel trip I had a full stomach. I don't suggest doing this. If lunch had been served after the second snorkel it would have been easier on me. Overall though, a great time had by my family!

  • A shot of our tour boat!

  • Beautiful West Maui Mountains from the boat!

  • My sister, brother-in-law and nephew eating breakfast!

  • My parents having a good time!

Wonderful experience!!

Reviewed by: kshabanov, 2015/10/19

I booked this tour for my family [ages 3 & 6]... none of us had any snorkeling experience. We all had a great time learning about the islands, sea animals, and snorkeling. The locations were beautiful!! The crew was friendly and helpful--especially when I was trying to get the kids in and out of the boat [and when my son asked for more cookies!].
Once on the water, at least two crew members were floating around on surfboards teaching, offering advice, and helping us swim back to the boat if we were too tired.
It was a little scary to be afloat in the big ocean, but I felt more confident knowing that there were at least 3 people keeping eyes on the water at all times... we even saw 2 pods of dolphins!

A nice time with the family

Reviewed by: Julie, 2015/10/13

We recently went on the Maui to Lanai Dolphin watch and snorkel trip. Unfortunately not under the control of the crew but the weather was not great and winds were strong enough that we could not make the trip to Lanai. I would have rescheduled as they gave us that as an option but we left the next day so it was not possible. So instead the captain tried to make the best of it by taking us down the west coast of Maui. We stopped at the first snorkel spot and it was good- really far from the reefs so kind of difficult to see much. They gave us about an hour here and then we were supposed to move further south to the next location. When we arrived the weather had picked up so she turned around to head back. They finally settled on a location to let us snorkel again and the seas were rough- better snorkeling though once we got in. However they didn't leave us much time in the water and by the time we got out they said we were to close to the harbor to even have our free drink allowance so 3 people in our party missed out on that :( Bummer since they wouldn't serve it to us prior to snorkeling. Didn't get to see dolphins either (which is why my son wanted to take this trip) but I also know that is not guaranteed. Overall the crew made the best of a bad weather situation. Maybe next time.....

Saw some dolphins, turtles, and fish, but not what we paid for

Reviewed by: honeymooners, 2015/09/22

My husband and I were looking forward to seeing lots of fish/dolphins and enjoying a barbecue lunch and cocktails. Our boarding passes didn't match the boat that we boarded, but we didn't think much of it. The boat started heading toward Lana'i, and the continental breakfast started (Costco muffins cut in half, fresh fruit, granola bars, and coffee or warm pineapple juice). Breakfast was good, but it quickly became EXTREMELY choppy. There was quite a south swell, so my husband and I didn't complain. When we arrived at Lana'i, we had to skip a snorkeling site due to rough water but were able to snorkel in a marine preserve bay. We saw a lot of fish and thought visibility was okay, but more experienced passengers thought that the visibility was awful.

We headed off to a Maui snorkeling site after an hour. On the way, we were treated to our "barbecue" lunch: cold-cut sandwiches, chips, and soda or water. We had all been looking forward to barbecue and almost every adult had been talking about the cocktails they were going to order. Compared to what we paid for, lunch was a real disappointment. But it was about to get worse; the water became even rougher, and passengers started vomiting everywhere - out the cabin windows and all over the floor right where everyone was eating. We did end up seeing dolphins, though.

The second snorkel site had pretty bad visibility, but we did see a few turtles! After an hour, we got back on the boat and headed back to the harbor.

We talked to a couple of locals (one an activity concierge) on the boat, and they said this trip is usually one of the best ones out there. But frankly, if you pay for barbecue and cocktails, you should be getting that (or something comparable with an explanation/apology). This did not happen on our trip. The locals said that the original boat would not have been as rough, as it was much bigger, too. We don't usually complain, but we wish we had gotten a bit of a refund. At least the crew was nice.

A must do when visiting Maui. Try to avoid taking kids the will get seasick. You will become great at snorkeling after the cruise. The crew was awesome, the captain told stories and gave us a bit of history is the islands. The breakfast given was just right, it was light for the long ride to find a good spot to snorkel (about one hour and fifteen minutes), I didn't get to try much of the lunch because I got a little seasick but what I tried was good. We were taken to rough waters to snorkel first then we were taken to a very calm beach with an old dock were we spotted a big turtle that when below most of us snorkeling. To be able to enjoy to the fullest you must drink you any type of anti-seasick drugs.

bad weather but still good

Reviewed by: Molly, 2015/09/20

My sister and I joined this activity because we thought that snorkeling is the must do thing in Hawaii. On the boat, you didn’t feel crowded and every group had their own table. However, the day was bad weather. The captain took us to three different places for snorkeling. There were only few fish and no any dolphins. Moreover, some people were stung by jellyfish. Fortunately, the captain had prepared vinegar on the boat. The crews were very nice. Because my sister is not good at swimming, one of the crew accompanied her during snorkeling. We really appreciated it when he offered to help. And the food provided on the boat is simple but good. I loved fruits. Besides breakfast and lunch, they also provided drinks and snacks. In spite of the bad weather, seeing and enjoying Lanai on the boat were wonderful. There was also a Hawaiian woman telling Hawaiian story during the tour. This tour is worth it and is suitable for everyone.

This was my first time doing snorkeling and i don't even know how to swim so i was not comfortable initially but this staff helped me with everything, explained me how to snorkel safely and i had no issues. Staff was really nice and helpful. Food was also great as well. They served breakfast when we started in morning and then we had bbq lunch. After snorkeling for couple of hours, they started BBQ and we had fresh hot dogs, cheese burgers, chicken burger and much more. Savor a delicious and freshly prepared BBQ lunch featuring big juicy hamburgers, chicken breasts and plump hotdogs with all fixins was amazing. After lunch, drinks bar was open and we all had complementary drinks. I was not expecting this much fun but now i am glad that i did this activity. This is must do activity in Maui and every dollar is worth spending on this activity. The price was very affordable since everything is expensive in Hawaii this was relief. I would highly recommend to get this deal. The Lahaina curse company and her crew are family oriented and provided safe, fun adventure.

We had a wonderful day!

Reviewed by: fummys, 2015/09/05

My husband and I joined this tour because we wanted to enjoy the sea of Maui. We stayed at Kapalua and so we had to get up very early and take a taxi to the nearest pick-up hotel. But it well deserved. They offered continental breakfast as soon as we were on board. It was good. Thanks to such a good weather, we enjoy boating on that day. In fact, it rained so heavily a couple of days ago that it was pretty difficult to find a good spot for snorkeling but the crew successfully did. The water was very clear, which was important for snorkeling. After we snorkeled, we returned to the boat to have a big BBQ lunch. It was also great. Enough good food and many kinds of drinks. On the way back to Maui, we saw a green turtle swimming. In addition, unexpectedly, we met a lot of dolphins! I have never seen so many dolphins before. They swam jumping and some of them came close to the boat. We were so excited. Then the crew brought us to another snorkeling spot near Lahaina Harbor before we got off the boat. The crew were all friendly and helpful. I would like to join this tour again with my children and grandchildren next time.

So many Dolphins to see!

Reviewed by: Rylee, 2015/08/31

This was my husband and I's first trip to Maui. We knew we wanted to do something adventurous but also relaxing for an excursion. The snorkel trip to Lanai was just what we were looking for. We ended up snorkeling at two different areas that day; first, at sweetheart point on Lanai, and then another spot around Lahaina on Maui. We would have stayed longer at sweetheart since it is more secluded, but there were just a couple of passengers who had spotted jellyfish in the water, so the captain made the decision to move elsewhere. As we were traveling back to Maui, we were lucky enough to see not just one, but two pods of Hawaiian spinner Dolphins. This was definitely the best part of the trip that day. They were very active dolphins and would swim along side the boat for minutes at a time. After we made it to the second snorkeling spot on Maui, a few passengers spotted a sea turtle swimming near an old abanded pier. The crew was also very kind and helpful and made sure that our safety was their priority. Food was great as well. We hope to do this excursion again someday and would recommend it to all!

In the morning we were served a continental breakfast which consisted of a verity of muffins and fruit and in the afternoon we were served lunch which included hamburger and chicken sandwiches and hotdogs for the kids. The crew was very attentive to all, helping us with our equipment and responding enthusiastically to any and all questions. I would sail with this fine group anytime. Awesome snorkeling trip Maui to Lanai

Reviewed by: Dustin, 2015/07/08

This trip was a great trip that gave us a couple different spots to check out snorkeling in Maui. Boarding the boat was quick and easy and we were out of the harbor in no time. I suggest if you did tent gear or have your own snorkel gear to bring it with you. They are just basic J snorkels with one size fits most masks. The trip to lanai was quick and calm. The reef off of Lanai was pristine and had soo many colors. The wind picked up so we got off the spot looked for dolphin to the south and went to a second spot near Lahaina. This spot was great also near a broken down pier with tons of sea turtles. The bbq lunch of burgers hotdogs and chicken was great as well as the crew who went around to make sure everyone was having a great time. The crew was great for younger children and older patrons alike. There was even a complimentary adult beverage included after lunch. They sell some gear to raise money for local whale research which was a great concept. I would recommend this trip to any family looking to get out snorkeling for the first time. Great way to see the island and the coral reefs.

Fun Family Adventure!

Reviewed by: Donna, 2015/06/29

My husband and daughter and I had a lot of fun on our snorkel adventure. We boarded and as the boat left the harbor we were told that breakfast was ready. Breakfast consisted of assorted fresh fruit, several types of muffins, and 3 types of juice, and coffee. Our captain for the day was concerned that the winds were already as strong as they were. She tried to get close to the shore of Lanai but the water was too choppy. She said that we would not be able to enjoy ourselves in water that rough and was very concerned for our safety. She had to turn around and go back to the coast of Maui to look for calmer water. I was glad that she was so safety conscious. I was having a good time just riding on the boat over the open water. Going back across the water was a bit bumpy, but that made it more exciting. We ended up going to a spot just off the coast of Maui were there was some pretty coral. The captain had a crew of 4 others who were all life guards. When the boat was anchored, the crew got busy helping everyone with their face masks & flippers and getting into the water. They had life belts for anyone who wanted to put them on (most people did). They also had swim noodles or boogie boards for us to use. There was one passenger who didn't know how to swim. The crew helped her get in the water and gave her one of the boogie boards to hold onto. They stayed right beside her until she felt comfortable. We spent about an hour at this location, then we got back on the boat and went to a second location where people actually saw some sea turtles in the water!
This trip was definitely fun. The only complaint was the weather could have been better the day we went, but we still got to go to two different locations and had about an hour in the water at each location.
I would definitely recommend that others try this excursion. You will have fun even if you have never been snorkeling before!

There were devises available for all ages and swim levels to ensure everyone had a great time. Some of us forgot to premeditate to prevent motion sickness :( the crew was exceptionally helpful with helping those of us feel better!

On our way to our first snorkel destination we came across a large group of Dolphins! They were all around the boat. Super beautiful!

Both of the snorkeling destinations were gorgeous! The water was super clear, with 150ft or more visibility! There were multiple types of fish in the area, even sea turtles.

I would recommend this activity to anyone wanting to have a great snorkeling experience!

On the way to Lahaina they offered us some good breakfast and played some music. Unfortunately, on our way to the first snorkel spot the weather got really bad. Therefore we had to go to a completely different spot where the waters were calmer and the weather was nice and sunny. Other than that the whole experience was amazing. The first snorkel spot that they took us to was beautiful. Filled with reef and all kinds of fish. Then, while on the way to the next snorkel spot they cooked us some dinner. We loved our trip from Maui to Lanai on this snorkeling cruise. The boat was a great size for the trip between the two islands. It was very clean and nice. The crew were all very helpful and friendly. We felt very confident in their abilities. They were all very knowledgeable about the trip and animal life that we encountered. The food was great, we loved having breakfast provided since we had to get up and be at the harbor so early. We were kind of disappointed to not see any dolphins. We felt like we had been told we would circle back to a specific point where dolphins are usually seen and that didn't happen. We were just taken back to Maui as soon as the second snorkeling stop had been made. Maybe we misunderstood what would happen there. Overall it was a great trip and a super fun way to spend the day.

I thought the crew was very helpful and were open to answering questions we had and also provided some nice insights on all of the islands. The coral reefs they took us to were very vibrant and the visibility was very clear. I was a little disappointed in the lack of variety in the fish we saw and we did not see any dolphin that day. All in all it was a very nice day and a nice change of pace.

Dolphin Watch & Snorkel

Reviewed by: Jana Killion, 2015/06/09

My daughter and I had a great time on this excursion. The individuals working the boat were very helpful. My daughter participated in the snorkeling and came face to face with two sea turtles! We actually made two stops for snorkeling. The breakfast consisted of fruit and muffins and lunch was hamburgers, and hotdogs. My daughter the diva had me take several pictures to post to her friends. The scenery was beautiful but best of all were the whales. We unexpectedly came upon three male whales following a female and her calf. The captains commentary was exceptional and the whales came up out of the water right next to our boat and then dove under it!! It was truly a sight to see. We had a wonderful time, the crew was exceptional and I would recommend this excursion to everyone.
